Hello, this is The Island of Dr Gâteau. It is a hybrid of things:

1. an assortment of weird but hopefully enjoyable experiments in recipe creation — sometimes based on principles of molecular gastronomy or the science of taste and flavour perception, and sometimes based on nothing more than ridiculous whims and passing fancies.

2. information about the biology and psychology of the eating experience — what scientific research has told us about how the brain influences eating and how eating influences the brain, how the brain allows us to perceive tastes and flavours, the tricks the brain plays on us when it comes to food and drink, and the way that the brain can in turn be tricked in the gastronomical world.

3. [misc.]

Written by a person with a PhD in neuroscience and a predilection for making inordinately complicated cakes.
